Students Across Sindh Set to Receive Free Laptops

The Sindh High Court’s Sukkur bench has directed the provincial government to introduce a proper laptop distribution policy for students across Sindh, marking a major step toward improving digital education in the province. In its written judgment, the court instructed authorities to include the laptop scheme in the upcoming provincial budget and finalize a complete policy within 45 days. The bench, led by Justice Amjad Ali Bohio and Justice Ali Haiderada, stated that access to digital devices has become an essential part of modern education and should be treated as a basic educational requirement under Article 25A of the Constitution. The court also ordered the government to consult schools, colleges, and universities before implementing the scheme to ensure transparency and effectiveness. According to the ruling, laptops must be distributed purely on merit so deserving and hardworking students can benefit equally. Officials have additionally been asked to submit a progress report by August 4, 2026, detailing developments regarding policy-making, funding allocation, and implementation plans. The decision is being viewed as a significant move toward reducing the digital divide and modernizing the public education system in Sindh.
