Rs9.5 Billion Education Boost: KP to Upgrade 72 Schools Across the Province

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has unveiled an ambitious education uplift plan proposing an allocation of Rs9.5 billion in the 2026–27 fiscal budget to convert 72 existing public schools into fully equipped model institutions aligned with modern global learning benchmarks. This large-scale reform is a central pillar of the province’s broader strategy to enhance educational quality, reduce inequality in access to learning, and nurture academic talent across both urban and rural regions. Under the proposed framework, the selected schools include 31 boys’ and 31 girls’ institutions, all of which will undergo comprehensive modernization and expansion. The upgraded campuses are expected to feature advanced science and IT laboratories, digitally enabled classrooms, sports infrastructure such as swimming pools, and other co-curricular facilities aimed at fostering holistic student development. A defining aspect of the initiative is its fully funded academic support system for students from Grade 6 to Grade 12, covering tuition, boarding, meals, textbooks, and monthly stipends to ease financial pressure on families. Admissions will be strictly merit-based, with each institution enrolling around 50 high-performing students through a competitive selection process. Scheduled to begin in July 2026 and conclude by September 2027, the programme is being described as a flagship reform designed to strengthen human capital, promote equal opportunity, and uplift underserved communities through quality public education.
