Punjab University’s AI Chatbot Set to Simplify Admission Queries for Students

Punjab University has marked a major technological milestone by becoming the first public-sector university in Pakistan to deploy an AI-driven chatbot aimed at assisting students and admission seekers with fast and reliable access to academic and administrative information. The PU Admission Assistant Chatbot was formally inaugurated by Prof. Dr. M. Ali in a ceremony attended by senior administrators, admission committee representatives, faculty deans, and university staff members. At the launch event, the vice chancellor commended the development team for completing the project in a remarkably short span of time and highlighted it as a transformative step toward modernizing student services through digital innovation. He reiterated that student convenience remains the university’s foremost priority and directed that the chatbot system should gradually be extended across other academic and administrative departments. During the briefing session, Prof. Dr. Shahzad Sarwar explained that the chatbot was developed entirely using internal resources and is capable of communicating in English, Urdu, and Roman Urdu, ensuring broader accessibility for diverse student groups. The AI-powered assistant is designed to simplify and accelerate the admission journey by delivering instant answers to frequently asked questions regarding admissions, academic programs, eligibility criteria, and procedural requirements, ultimately enhancing efficiency and reducing delays in information access.
