COMSATS Abbottabad May Shut Down Due to Financial Constraints
A growing financial challenge has placed the future of COMSATS University Islamabad’s Abbottabad campus expansion project under serious scrutiny. The university’s planned permanent campus, designed to provide modern educational facilities for nearly 6,000 students, remains far from completion despite receiving official approval several years ago. At present, academic activities continue at the campus’s rented location in Tobe Camp, but concerns are mounting as the lease period moves closer to its conclusion. The long-awaited infrastructure project, valued at approximately Rs. 3.49 billion, was envisioned as a major step toward strengthening higher education opportunities in the region. However, the absence of funding under the federal development budget has slowed progress significantly, leaving key construction work unfinished. University stakeholders fear that if financial support is not secured soon, the institution could face operational difficulties and delays in relocating students to a purpose-built facility. The situation also reflects a wider issue affecting educational development projects across Pakistan, where approved schemes often struggle to move forward due to budget limitations. With the next development budget approaching, students, faculty, and parents are closely watching for a decision that could shape the campus’s future for years to come.
