Qatar Restrictions Add Uncertainty for Pakistani Students Planning to Study in Finland

Thousands of Pakistani students preparing to begin their higher education journey in Finland for the September 2026 intake are currently facing serious uncertainty because of ongoing visa and residence permit complications connected to travel procedures in Qatar. Since Finland does not currently operate an embassy in Pakistan, students are required to visit Doha for biometric verification and permit processing. However, many applicants say entry into Qatar has become increasingly difficult due to the suspension of visa-on-arrival services for Pakistani citizens and prolonged delays in approvals under the Hayya A1 system. Students have also reported limited or unavailable biometric appointment slots, creating further complications ahead of the academic session. The situation has left many worried after already investing significant amounts in university tuition fees, accommodation bookings, and travel planning. Several students say the delays are affecting not only their academic future but also causing financial pressure and emotional stress. Many are now calling on Pakistani, Finnish, and Qatari authorities to coordinate and introduce an urgent solution so students can complete their documentation process and reach Finland before university classes officially begin later this year.
