Historic Moment: 33000 Students Appear in First NSCT IT Skills Exam
More than 33,000 students across Pakistan participated in the country’s first nationwide National Skill Competency Test (NSCT) for IT graduates, marking a significant milestone toward creating a standardized framework for evaluating digital expertise and strengthening workforce readiness in the technology sector. The initiative, launched by the Government of Pakistan through the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), is designed to reduce the gap between academic education and evolving industry requirements in the fast-paced IT landscape. According to official details, the NSCT was developed as a competency-based assessment system to measure practical computing skills of graduates and ensure alignment between university curricula and market expectations. The examination was conducted in April 2026 as a synchronized, computer-based assessment via the Virtual University platform. Out of 40,784 registered candidates, 33,038 appeared, reflecting an impressive attendance rate of 81 percent. The test was held across 112 cities in 165 centers with participation from more than 190 universities nationwide. It comprised 100 questions to be completed within 120 minutes across four daily sessions. The program was supervised by a multi-stakeholder steering committee formed on the Prime Minister’s directive, including representatives from HEC, MoITT, PSEB, P@SHA, NCEAC, and Virtual University. Officials stated that the NSCT will enhance industry-academia collaboration, improve curriculum design, and build a verified national IT talent pool to support Pakistan’s growing digital economy and export potential.
