Government Forms Cyber Patrol Unit to Monitor Online Criminal Activity

The Interior Ministry of Pakistan has launched a specialised Cyber Patrolling Cell aimed at strengthening oversight of digital spaces by monitoring unlawful activity, extremist propaganda, and any form of anti-state expression circulating on social media platforms. Officials stated that the initiative is designed to identify and counter individuals or groups involved in disseminating terrorism-linked material or encouraging sectarian hatred through online networks. Under the new mechanism, all suspicious digital behaviour related to national security threats will be placed under continuous surveillance, enabling swift action against offenders operating in virtual environments. The cell will function under the direct supervision of the Interior Secretary, ensuring high-level administrative control, transparency, and coordination among relevant law enforcement and cybersecurity departments. Authorities have confirmed that essential human resources and technical equipment have already been procured to operationalise the unit without delay. Once fully active, the Cyber Patrolling Cell is expected to enhance Pakistan’s digital security framework and improve response time against cyber threats. The government maintains that this step reflects a broader commitment to safeguarding online spaces and maintaining public order in the digital realm.
