Rs22 Billion Allocated for Honhaar Scholarship Program in Punjab Budget

The Punjab government has unveiled a major financial commitment of Rs. 22 billion for the Honhaar Scholarship Program under the Budget 2026–27, reinforcing its resolve to uplift bright and financially challenged students across the province. This initiative is aimed at ensuring that higher education remains accessible to meritorious youth, regardless of their economic background, by easing tuition burdens and promoting equal academic opportunity. Officials highlighted that the Honhaar Scholarship Program has already supported thousands of students in earlier phases, and the new funding will significantly broaden its reach in the coming year. The program is being positioned as a cornerstone of Punjab’s youth development strategy, reflecting a strong focus on education-driven progress and human capital investment. Alongside scholarships, the provincial budget also expands support for modern learning infrastructure, including laptop distribution schemes, STEAM laboratories, IT labs in colleges, and the establishment of new educational institutions across various districts. The overall education development plan stands at Rs. 750 billion, with allocations such as Rs. 15.69 billion for laptops, Rs. 33 billion for STEAM labs, Rs. 55 billion for Punjab Education Foundation, Rs. 6.9 billion for IT labs, and Rs. 7.8 billion for new campuses. These combined efforts aim to enhance learning quality, bridge educational gaps, and empower students with advanced academic resources.
