Govt Unveils Plan to Create 2 Million Employment Opportunities in FY 2026–27

The federal government has announced an ambitious employment target of creating 2 million new jobs during the fiscal year 2026–27 as part of a broader strategy to accelerate economic growth, strengthen labour markets, and expand income opportunities across Pakistan. According to official planning documents, the services sector is expected to lead job creation with nearly 1.1 million new positions, reflecting its continued dominance in the national economy. The industrial sector is projected to contribute around 500,000 jobs, supported by expansion in manufacturing and value-added production, while the agriculture sector is estimated to generate approximately 400,000 employment opportunities through modernisation and rural development initiatives. Officials stated that this new target builds on earlier progress, as the government claims around 1.8 million jobs were created during the current fiscal year ending June 2026. Authorities believe that increased employment will enhance household incomes, stimulate consumer demand, and strengthen overall economic stability. The plan also highlights coordinated federal and provincial efforts focusing on entrepreneurship promotion, vocational training, technical education, and improved job-matching systems to connect skilled workers with relevant opportunities. As Pakistan’s largest economic engine, the services sector is expected to remain the primary driver of growth, while industrial and agricultural development will further support inclusive and sustainable employment generation across the country.
