Rs. 81 Billion Allocated for Healthcare Expansion in Punjab Budget 2026-27

Punjab’s healthcare sector could witness one of its biggest development drives in years as the provincial government has proposed an ambitious package exceeding Rs. 81 billion for the 2026-27 financial year. The plan includes 24 fresh projects aimed at improving medical services, expanding treatment facilities, and modernizing healthcare infrastructure across multiple cities. A substantial portion of the investment is expected to support the construction of new specialized institutions, including advanced cardiac, pediatric, and cancer treatment centers in underserved regions. Authorities have also outlined extensive upgrades for major public hospitals, focusing on emergency care, diagnostic services, outpatient facilities, and patient support systems. Alongside new buildings and expansions, the proposal places strong emphasis on acquiring modern medical technology, including MRI systems, cardiology equipment, neuro-intervention facilities, and laboratory enhancements. Digital healthcare initiatives are also part of the package, with funding earmarked for hospital management systems to improve efficiency and patient care. Officials believe these investments could help reduce pressure on existing hospitals while bringing quality healthcare closer to communities across Punjab. If approved and implemented as planned, the development program could significantly strengthen the province’s healthcare network and improve access to specialized treatment for millions of residents.
