Pakistan Targets 400000 Jobs Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2034
Pakistan is preparing a major push in its overseas labour strategy by training and deploying an estimated 300,000 to 400,000 workers for opportunities linked to the FIFA World Cup 2034. This large-scale plan is part of a broader national effort to strengthen manpower exports and position Pakistani workers more competitively in global job markets. Official planning documents indicate that workforce development is being aligned with expected demand across infrastructure, aviation, tourism, construction, and service sectors from 2026 to 2034. The initiative reflects a long-term strategy to enhance skill levels, with 215,719 workers already receiving soft-skills training during FY2025-26 to improve adaptability and international employability. In 2025 alone, 762,499 Pakistanis registered for overseas employment, highlighting the growing scale of labour migration. Since 1972, more than 15 million citizens have worked abroad through official channels, with over 96% currently employed in GCC countries, especially Saudi Arabia and the UAE, where remittances remain a key economic lifeline. Saudi Arabia continues to be the top destination, driven by Vision 2030 development projects. Meanwhile, Pakistan is also expanding labour ties with Europe, including Italy, Germany, and Greece. Digital reforms like the Pakistan Emigrant Management Framework and Digital HR Pool aim to streamline recruitment and improve transparency.
