Karachi Police Take Action with Anti-Drug Plan for Schools & Universities

Karachi Police have unveiled a strengthened anti-drug framework aimed at safeguarding students across educational institutions in the South Zone, in response to rising concerns over narcotics exposure among youth. The initiative has been jointly designed with principals and administrators from 22 schools and universities, focusing on a multi-layered strategy that includes prevention, awareness, early detection, parental engagement, rehabilitation support, and stronger coordination with law enforcement agencies. According to South Zone DIG Syed Asad Raza, the core objective of this policy is to create a secure, drug-free academic environment where students can focus on education without the threat of substance abuse. The strategy highlights the importance of educating students about the physical, mental, social, and legal harms of drug use while encouraging collaboration between families, teachers, healthcare professionals, and police authorities. Special emphasis has been placed on early identification of at-risk students and providing them timely counseling and rehabilitation services. Under this system, anti-drug committees will be formed within institutions, comprising school officials, teachers, parents, and police representatives to monitor and guide prevention efforts. Regular seminars, awareness drives, and workshops will also be conducted. Institutions may introduce consent-based screening measures and strengthen reporting mechanisms against drug networks targeting students.
