Young Journalists to Benefit as KP Introduces Interest-Free Media Startup Loans

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has unveiled a new initiative aimed at empowering young journalists by offering interest-free loans for media startups, encouraging the growth of independent journalism and digital news platforms across the province. Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi stated that the program reflects a broader vision inspired by the ideology of Imran Khan, focusing on strengthening free and independent media while enabling journalists to build financially sustainable ventures. Under this scheme, aspiring media entrepreneurs will receive financial assistance to establish digital news outlets, independent media houses, and content-based startups that can contribute to the evolving information landscape. Officials highlighted that the initiative is not only designed to support journalism but also to generate new employment opportunities for the youth, particularly in creative and digital sectors. As part of a wider development strategy, the KP government also plans to integrate media growth with IT development, including the establishment of media colonies, upgradation of press clubs in merged districts, and long-term capacity-building programs for journalists. The chief minister emphasized that this step represents a strong commitment to youth empowerment, professional independence, and the digital transformation of the media industry in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ultimately modernizing storytelling and news production in the region.
