Next-Gen 240Hz AR Gaming Glasses Arrive With Premium Price Tag

ASUS Republic of Gamers, in collaboration with XREAL, has officially opened preorders for its new ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses, introducing what is being described as the world’s first 240Hz micro-OLED AR gaming glasses, priced at $849. The device is now available for preorder through Best Buy, while the XREAL online store will follow later, with global shipping expected to begin from June 1 according to official announcements. The ROG XREAL R1 features Sony’s 0.55-inch micro-OLED panels with a peak brightness of 700 nits, delivering an ultra-smooth 240Hz refresh rate and an extremely fast 0.01ms response time. This is nearly double the refresh rate of most competing AR glasses, which typically peak at 120Hz. The system projects a massive 171-inch virtual display at 1080p resolution, offering an immersive gaming experience in a lightweight 91-gram frame. Connectivity is handled via USB-C or the bundled ROG Control Dock, which supports three device inputs including HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4, allowing seamless switching between consoles and PCs. Additional features include Bose-tuned speakers and electrochromic dimming with multiple light-filtering levels for eye comfort. ASUS also noted that performance is optimized when paired with the ROG Ally handheld console. The package includes both glasses and dock, with no separate purchase option available.
