Strong Growth: Pakistan Freelancers Hit $856M Earnings in FY2025-26

Pakistan’s freelancing industry has maintained a strong growth momentum, generating over $856 million in foreign exchange during the first nine months (July–March) of FY2025–26, even amid ongoing issues like unstable internet and frequent power disruptions. According to the latest figures from the State Bank of Pakistan, earnings from computer and IT-related freelance services reached $856 million by the third quarter, compared to $567 million in the same period last year, reflecting an impressive increase of nearly 50%. This sharp rise highlights the expanding role of Pakistan in the global digital services and remote work economy, where skilled professionals are increasingly delivering services to international clients through online platforms. Industry stakeholders, including the Pakistan Freelancers Association, credit government-backed training programs and private initiatives for helping thousands of young individuals enter the freelancing space every month. However, challenges remain, particularly unreliable internet connectivity and electricity shortages, which continue to disrupt workflow, reduce productivity, and impact freelancers’ global ratings. Experts warn that such issues can directly affect long-term earning potential. Despite these hurdles, optimism remains high as Pakistan explores improved digital infrastructure, with expectations that future technologies like 5G could significantly enhance speed, stability, and overall performance of the country’s rapidly growing gig economy.
