Tech-Savvy Students Build App for Punjab Electric Bus Commuters
Two innovative students, Muhammad Ghayas and Rizwan Ali, have developed a mobile application designed to simplify commuting on Punjab’s electric bus network by providing accurate routes and schedules. The idea emerged after Muhammad Ghayas faced long waits due to unclear bus timings, inspiring the duo to create a practical solution for daily passengers. The app offers detailed information on bus routes, stops, and departure times across multiple Punjab cities, with notifications for schedule changes and offline functionality for users without internet access. Although not yet available on the Google Play Store, the app has already gained over 50,000 social media views in two days and more than 500 downloads. While live bus tracking is not currently integrated, the developers are engaging with government authorities, including the Punjab Transport Authority and the Punjab Information Technology Board, to expand features. Covering six to seven major cities, the project seeks to improve public transport accessibility and reduce commuter frustration throughout Punjab.
