Punjab Government Launches Climate Leadership Internship for Youth
The Government of Punjab has launched the Climate Leadership Development Internship Programme to engage young people in environmental protection and climate governance across the province. The initiative was announced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif as part of efforts to tackle climate change and involve youth in sustainable development projects.
Under the program, selected interns will receive a monthly stipend of Rs60,000 and will participate in a three-month internship focused on climate policy, environmental management, and field activities. After successfully completing the internship, participants will receive an official certificate from the Government of Punjab, with additional certification opportunities in collaboration with UNESCO.
The internship will allow young graduates to work with officers from the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency, gaining hands-on experience in environmental governance and climate initiatives. The selection process will be merit-based and district-wise, ensuring representation from across Punjab.
To promote gender equality, 50% of the seats have been reserved for female students, providing equal opportunities for women to contribute to climate action and environmental policy development.
Officials stated that interested candidates can apply online through the Environment Protection Department portal, and the last date for applications is March 29, 2026.
The Punjab government hopes the program will empower young people to become future climate leaders, helping the province address challenges such as air pollution, smog, and environmental degradation.
