Airlines Hike Ticket Prices by Rs 28,000 Due to Fuel Cost Increase
Airlines across Pakistan have significantly increased ticket prices after a sharp surge in global jet fuel costs, placing additional financial pressure on travelers. Domestic airfares have reportedly risen between Rs 2,800 and Rs 5,000, while international flight tickets have jumped by as much as Rs 10,000 to Rs 28,000 depending on the destination and airline. Routes connecting Pakistan to the Middle East and Central Asia have experienced fare increases of nearly Rs 15,000, reflecting the growing operational costs faced by airlines. Long-haul routes have been impacted even more, with one-way tickets to cities like Toronto and Manchester now exceeding Rs 250,000 in some cases. The price surge follows a dramatic rise in jet fuel costs, which increased by Rs 154 per liter—an 82% jump—along with recent government hikes in petrol and diesel prices. Aviation officials say escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and continued volatility in the global oil market are driving the increases, forcing airlines to pass higher operating expenses onto passengers.
